THECB Announces Open Texas 2021 Virtual Open Education Conference March 11-12
March 4, 2021, Austin, Texas –The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) announces Open Texas 2021, a statewide open education conference March 11-12, organized by the THECB, the Digital Higher Education Consortium of Texas, and Texas Digital Library. The virtual event is free and aligns with the March 1-5 Open Education (OE) Week, an annual event that promotes actively sharing and learning about the latest achievements in open education worldwide. Registration for Open Texas 2021 is open until March 10 and the program is available online.
“Open Education Resources have a positive impact on higher education access and affordability,” said THECB Assistant Commissioner for Digital Learning Michelle Singh. “The Coordinating Board is committed to furthering awareness of OER in the state and building the capacity of Texas institutions to engage in open education and digital learning.”
The Open Texas 2021 conference, hosted by the University of Houston-Downtown, Houston Community College, and the Houston Area OER Consortium, will feature keynote speaker Dr. DeRionne Pollard, president of Montgomery College, at 1 p.m. CST Thursday, March 11. Open Texas builds on the success of the 2018 Statewide OER Summit and the 2019 Statewide Open Education Texas Convening and will assemble librarians, faculty, administrators, and other open education practitioners and advocates to learn, share, and network.
