***Formerly referred to as “Nursing Innovation Grant Program” or “NIGP”***
The Nursing, Allied Health and Other Health-Related Education Grant Program is an initiative to help address the state’s nursing shortage. The program was established by the 76th Texas Legislature in 1999 and codified in Texas Education Code Section 63.202 (f) and (g) to help relieve the state’s nursing shortage. It is funded with proceeds from the Texas Tobacco Lawsuit Settlement.
Eligibility
A program approved by the Texas Board of Nursing that prepares students for initial licensure as Registered Nurses (RNs) at Texas public institutions of higher education and Texas independent higher education institutions, as defined in Texas Education Code 61.003.
A nursing program currently designated as Conditional Approval under 22 Texas Administrative Code (TAC), Section 215.4, by the Texas Board of Nursing is not an Eligible Applicant.

The Nursing, Allied Health and Other Health-Related Education Grant Program has previously been referred to as the “NIGP” or ” Nursing Innovation Grant Program”. The NIGP is a different grant program, and is not interchangeable with the Nursing, Allied Health and Other Health-Related Education Grant Program.
