Direct Admissions helps students and families making higher education decisions
The college application process is now less stressful for Texas students and their families, thanks to the work of the THECB team.
In October, we launched Direct Admissions, a new feature within My Texas Future that provides Texas students with a list of among 31 participating Texas institutions where they qualify for acceptance, before they even begin the college application process.
The addition of Direct Admissions enhances My Texas Future’s position as the state’s one-stop college and career advising website, providing students another innovative resource designed to streamline the postsecondary decision process.
With Direct Admissions, students share their academic information, including class rank, grade point average, and SAT/ACT score, through their My Texas Future profile. Students can receive their Direct Admissions list as early as the end of their junior year.
Once students know where they can be admitted via Direct Admissions, they then complete an application in ApplyTexas to verify their academic information. This also allows higher education institutions to determine if students qualify for scholarship offers and their major of choice. If a student does not qualify for direct admission at a particular college or university, they may still apply through the traditional, holistic application process.
Development of Direct Admissions was supported by philanthropic funds through THECB’s official nonprofit partner, the Texas Higher Education Foundation. It was also a collaborative effort across many divisions here at the agency, and we’re excited to introduce it to Texas students.
You can learn more about Direct Admissions on the My Texas Future website. Check it out and see how the THECB is putting students in position to meet their higher education goals and keep up with the thriving Texas economy’s growing need for high-demand, high-value jobs.
