Advisory Council on Postsecondary Education for Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
Overview
The Advisory Council on Postsecondary Education for Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) is charged with the following:
- Studying the accessibility of higher education for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities;
- Providing advice regarding resolving barriers to accessing higher education for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities; and
- Identifying, evaluating, and developing recommendations to address barriers to accessing higher education for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are or have been in the foster care system and any data collection issues in relation to those persons.
Current Status
This Advisory Council convenes periodically, with this period of convening starting in January 2020 for a two-year period. Its purpose is outlined in the Texas Education Code.
Meeting Schedule
This Advisory Council meets at least quarterly, at the call of the presiding officer. Agendas are posted in the Texas Register a minimum of seven days before a meeting.
Membership
Members represent higher education IDD programs at the two- and four-year levels, students, parents, and advocacy groups. Council participants, including the member-elected presiding officer, serve two-year terms.
