Rural Resident Physician Program (RRPP)

Intent

The Rural Resident Physician Program (RRPP) seeks to establish new, or to expand existing, graduate medical education programs in rural and non-metropolitan areas of Texas to help meet the healthcare needs of rural communities across the state. The emphasis is on the creation of rural training tracks and grantees are expected to show support for residency training from sponsoring institutions and the communities they serve.  

Eligibility

New or expanding physician residency programs at teaching hospitals and other appropriate health care entities, with resident physician sites in a rural or nonmetropolitan area as defined by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy grant programs, are eligible to apply for the RRPP.  

Award criteria will include whether the rural area has the resources to support a physician residency that at a minimum meets applicable residency program accreditation requirements.

All submittals must be complete (inclusive of required signatures, acknowledgments, required attachments, etc.) and received by the posted due date. Incomplete and late submittals will not be considered for award.

Reminders:

• Applications submitted must develop or expand and administer physician residency programs at teaching hospitals or other health care entities in a rural or nonmetropolitan area. 
• Awarded grantees may only expend grant funds on the salary of the resident physician and other direct costs that are necessary and reasonable to create or maintain the residency position as stated in grantee’s budget.
